Seismic Background Noise Conditions Report

Metrics: 95% Interquantile Amplitude Range (I95 Metric)
Target Evaluation Band: 5.0 Hz - 40.0 Hz (Continuous 24/7 Monitoring Window)
Understanding the I95 Metric

The I95 value defines the continuous ambient background noise level (Bodenunruhe), calculated after Groos and Ritter (2009) (DOI: 10.1111/j.1365-246X.2009.04343.x). It represents the exact interval width enclosing 95% of all recorded seismic amplitude samples within a zero-mean time series window.

1. Overall Background Noise Statistics (I95 Violin Distribution Summary)

Shows the statistical density profile across all processed windows. Red markers highlight the statistical mean, blue lines represent data medians.

2. Diurnal Temporal Evolution (I95 Values tracked Day-by-Day per Station)

Day-by-day temporal sequence variation for individual stations. Red dots signify high-noise day windows (06:00 to 18:00); Black dots correspond to local quiet night windows. The Red line shows the median value over the time series.

3. Probabilistic Power Spectral Density (PPSD) Profiles

Detailed frequency distribution profiles per monitoring site compared against standard Noise Models (Peterson et al., 1993, DOI: 10.3133/ofr93322).
